Demonstration and talk by Peter Warren
This month we were delighted to have Peter Warren as our guest speaker. Peter Warren is a bonsai professional from the UK who trained for over five years in Japan under one of the top masters, Kunio Kobayashi.
Peter first held a critique and auction of some trees that had been donated to our Society. This included tips on how to work with the tree's natural beauty; highlighting problems with each of the trees and offering suggestions for how to resolve each issue.
Peter then did a demonstration on a hawthorn belonging to one of our members. The tree was collected some years ago and planted in a washing-up bowl but then left to its own devices for many years! Peter covered a great deal of different topics, such as pruning and jinning, whilst he worked on the tree. He shared many tips that he had learnt over his years of working with bonsai but also made the demonstration very interactive. One of our members said: "I really liked the way he asked us questions and then challenged us to explain our answers - it made us all think!". We found the demonstration extremely interesting and informative, and learnt many things that we had not known before.
